60's/70s era ads

I've been drawing a lot of inspiration recently from watching a lot of 70s and 60s era commercials on You tube in my spare time. They're wacky, and seem somewhat archaic compared to today's technology, but are nevertheless really great. Here are some of the standouts for me.

I do so apologize for the lack of posts as of late. Hard pressed with numerous deadlines, the posts slowed a bit in the last month or so. But I was always thinking of you!! I swear. Nevetheless, the beat always trudges forth. On ward! Here instead is a work in progress I am doing for an art swap with a fellow friend/artist.

SUGIPOP @ Portsmouth Museum of Fine Arts

I have a piece in SugiPop; Anime, Manga, comics, and their influence on contemporary art, an exhibit at the Portsmouth Museum of Fine Arts in New Hampshire. The opening is this evening 5:30-7:30. The show is up and it is sure not to disappoint, quite impressive. Heavy weights such as Takashi Murakami, Yoshitomo Nara, KAWS, Mike Shinoda, Luke Chueh, and Aya Takano are featured as well as yours truly. Grab some chowder while your in town and check out some pop culture influenced art.

ANDREW HEM speed painting

Andrew Hem is one artist you should follow if you don't already. Despite the bad rock song in the background, the video is a nice representation of Andrew's process of painting.

this just might be the sickest thing ever in my eyes. Style Wars legends MIN ONE, ZEPHYR, and REVOLT kill it. Coupled with the Gary Numan & the Tube Way Army soundtrack?!!! untouchable.

New layout

in case you hadn't noticed, there is a new layout in town!!! Clean and colorful. That's just how I like em.

Autobots transform!!

One thing I appreciate about being an artist is that in the most mundane moments that naturally occur in life, we possess the ability to just chose to create. I can turn it on like a light switch, and often refer to it as my superpower. I feel lucky that I can draw better than most people, but can't draw worth a shit compared to others. But in short I make sure I'm never bored, and this isn't all too difficult feat for me to achieve. To be clear; there is a world of difference between working on a thorough piece of artwork, which involves a great deal of editing, planning and skill, compared to just bullshitting around in order to avoid boredom. But thats just what this was. It was 93 degrees outside, and while I withered away on the couch, watching The Real Housewife's of New Jersey's dysfunction, I realized I could be producing something instead of turning numb on the couch. I turned my drawing board around and did this. Aerosol, and acrylics. I can't be held responsible.



Now I'm not implying either that the result is super awesome. Really it's just a pseudo-graffiti goofy dude with the word 'promise' bellow him. Nothing too profound or all that interesting. But I had fun making it, and on some level thats what it all about.

passing energy & skills

I know it's been a while since I've posted. I've been assistant teaching Drawing Fundamentals again at The Massachusetts School of Art & Design. Working with kids is pretty wonderful, but it almost promises to zonk just about all of your energy. By the end of the day, you are so drained it's hard to get going on creating work. Hence lack of posts.

Don't ask me what's up, because I don't know Boy Blue. I'll figure it out.
What's important is that there is a burger in this one. And Burgers rule supremely.
